Welcome to my blog

Hi!! My name is Kimberly Holvick; I am the creator and mastermind behind NorCalKnitsnBits. My knitting and designing journey began almost 20 years ago when I saw another woman knitting. As I was admiring her work and the beautiful rhythm of her hands, I made a comment in complete awe that "I could never do that". She looked me in the eyes as serious as could be, with the sweetest and most impowering smile and said, "Oh yes you can". I was off and running to my nearest big box store; bought a how to book, some cute acrylic yarn, a set of bamboo circular needles and taught myself to knit. I ended up making a full child sized sweater with a hood and kangaroo pocket. I was so dang proud, and it actually fit my son...he had plenty of room to grow...lol!! He loved it too and wanted to wear it anytime it wasn't being washed. I was hooked, there was no turning back, if I was sitting, I was knitting. I later learned how to walk and knit!! I was knitting everything I could find a pattern for that I liked, started test knitting, and dabbled in learning to design as well. I finally mustered up the courage after a bit and submitted my first pattern idea to a knitting magazine and it was accepted!! It was 3-D looking block stitch baby blanket and was published May of 2009 I believe. I had started a website "You Knit It" and created a "Brimmed Beanie" pattern (remember those? The skater style beanie with the brim) that could be purchased, and I would mail out a nice card stock print with actual photo. This was again before PDF/digital was BIG. I started designing for a yarn distribution company that is now out of business, and a few of my designs were featured in Knit'NStyle magazine which is also now out of business/out of print. I was flying and soaring high...then life happened. I had to tuck all my beautiful hoard...I mean stash of yarn away and switch gears to raise my boys. So here we are many years later and the tides have shifted...boys are grown, and the yarn gods are shinning upon me once more. I have been able to knit and enjoy the craft for many years as a hobby but am just now getting the chance to pick up where I had to leave off. This is where NorCalKnitsnBits is born...I am diving right back in where I left off, albeit a much heavier market now for knitwear designers. I am passionate, dedicated, and driven to creating quality knitwear designs for you that are fun, user-friendly, and incorporate all levels of knitters to enjoy. I hope to inspire, support, and add to this beautiful community we have as crafters and knitters.
